If I had only known…

That I could have worked some HF from the Titan II Missile Silo. While on vacation near Phoenix, my buddy and I stopped in to visit. Of course he insisted on driving. Had I known this was available, I would’ve grabbed my FT-897 out of the car and brought it with. Next time.

“Communications of course played a key role in the mission of the Titan II missile sites. At the Titan Missile Museum the Green Valley Amateur Radio Club affords the opportunity for amateur radio operators to utilize the original Collins Radio HF discone antenna on the site. At nearly 80 feet tall, the discone become operational in July of 1963 and served until it was deactivated in 1982. The club has generously provided coaxial connections to the antenna and a picnic table to set up the rigs on.” ~ Courtesy of WB5DYG
